Training Thoughtful Leaders: Elevating Listening, Empathy, and Awareness of Leadership Styles

Tuesday 09/24/2024 12:00 pm EDT
This session will describe the possibilities of transitioning across three types of leaders: the transactional, the transforming, and the transcendent. Effective leaders are combinations of all three, and all leverage attributes needed for a given situation at one time or another. This helps navigate and clarify a path toward becoming a more thoughtful leader. Leadership knowledge, skills, values, and a strong belief system enable and equip an individual, but more is required to rise above the fray and become the leader required for a given moment or situation.

What is thoughtful leadership?
At their core, a thoughtful leader is a listener—not just with their ears, but with their heart, their experiences, and with an informed gut. The thoughtful leader also routinely empathizes with their team—taking the time to lean in and share experiences, pay attention to the epidata swirling around everyone, and being aware of what is going on within the organization. Being a sponge and absorbing and synthesizing activities and happenings is a hallmark of a thoughtful leader, as is having the skills, proficiency, and fortitude to comprehend the whole environment of their organization—discerning, participating, and not retreating.
